WHF/WHFF Partner Series: Seila Law v. CFPB Decision: Where do we go from here? 

Program Description:


WHFF Board Member, Andre’ Cotten, will moderate this panel with three experts to discuss the recent Supreme Court decision in Seila Law v. CFPB. The Court ruled the CFPB structure unconstitutional but rejected Seila Law’s request to hold that, if the leadership structure is unconstitutional, the court should strike down the rest of the act creating the CFPB as well.

André Cotten is a Regulatory Attorney at the Consumer Bankers Association (CBA). Cotten brings a multifaceted financial services background, with experience spanning from Capitol Hill to consulting to associations. His expertise covers a wide range of consumer financial services legislation, regulation and implementation.





Naeha Prakash is an Associate General Counsel and Senior Vice President for Consumer Regulatory Affairs for the Bank Policy Institute. Ms. Prakash serves on BPI’s legal and regulatory affairs team, where she is responsible for developing and managing BPI’s advocacy and policy work in the area of consumer financial regulation.





Peter Siegal represents clients in complex cases in the United States courts of appeals and Supreme Court, with a particular focus and constitutional and intellectual property issues. He also provides strategic analysis and dispositive briefing in significant, law-intensive matters before federal agencies and trial courts. Peter has been named a "Rising Star" for appellate litigation by Super Lawyers Magazine each of the last four years and was one of two principal drafters of CBA’s brief in Seila Law.






Will Corbett is the Director of litigation at the Center for Responsible Lending in Durham, NC. He oversees CRL’s involvement federal and state court litigation and provides guidance on a broad range of consumer issues. In 2011, Will joined the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, serving first as a Counsel in the Office of Enforcement, where he served as lead counsel on the Bureau's first public enforcement action and the served as lead counsel on some of the CFPB’s earliest cases. Later, as Senior Counsel in the Office of Regulations, Will helped lead the Bureau's Mortgage Servicing Rulemakings and provided guidance on CFPB’s enforcement of the prohibition against unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices.
